LEYMA EXTRAEXTRA

Growing in the digital age, where five or six social media platforms entirely dominate your life, your interactions with others, and the perception of your own identity is an unlikely current issue. No one knows this better than today’s teenagers, such as rising London musician Leyma. At 18-years-old, Max Hanley is an inside observer of this digital generation, which led him to write his new inquisitive single ‘ExtraExtra’. Speaking about the track, Hanley says: “I liked the old imagery of newspapers and taking a step back from being in front of the screens that we surround ourselves with every day.  Becoming 18 and seeing how much instagram or whatever rules the people I know, me included, sort of opened my eyes a bit. I think the way we rely on our phones and constant communication with everyone’s a bit jarring. I'd be a hypocrite to say I don't use my phone all the time, because I do, but “ExtraExtra” is asking whether it's helping us or hindering us.” ‘ExtraExtra’ is a fresh indie-pop bop, but has a much deeper intent; to open up the conversation about the mental and social impact that all this handheld media has on young people today, and those still to come. - Hannah Thacker
